Delhi was the capital city of India during the Mughal Empire and the British shifted the capital back from Calcutta to Delhi in 1911. Delhi was made a Union Territory on November 1, 1966 with a Lieutenant Governor as administrator. In December 1991, it was decleared National Capital Territory with a Legislatiue Assembly and a Council of Ministers. It has been converted to State in late nintees. | ||
