About :

Meghalaya is exclusively a tribal state of the Khasi and Garo tribes. Originally it was an autonomous region within the composite State of Assam. It became a full-fledged State on January 21, 1972 under the North Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act 1971. It is surrounded by Assam within India and Bangladesh on the international border.
